1 Introduction

This document defines the allowed value sets and allowed values of the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite standard and was developed by the member organisations of the Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX). Any organisation wishing to implement this (or any other DDEX standard) is required to apply for an Implementation Licence. Information about the Implementations Licence, its terms and conditions and access to an application form can be found here and here.

This part of the DSR standard defines the allowed value sets and allowed values used in the various Record types defined in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (at the time of writing, Parts 3—7 and 9—11) and the Claim Detail Message Suite (at the time of writing, Parts 3—5).

The various parts of the DSR standard define standard Sales/Usage Reports that can be used by different types of licensees to report sales and/or usage. Which part such licensees use is usually determined by the nature of the service they offer to consumers. The various parts of the CDM standard define standard messages that provide a mechanism for musical work licensors (typically music rights societies or music publishers) to respond to a Sales/Usage Report (as defined in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite standard or in proprietary formats offering the same or similar functionality) received from licensees (typically digital service providers or DSPs) for licensees to respond to the content of such messages in the event the licensee identifies any discrepancies.

The standards contained in these various parts are known as profiles.

This standard was developed by the member organisations of the Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX) and provides a suite of messages that give a uniform mechanism to enable Release Creators (usually record companies) to inform DSPs about Releases — whether they are newly created or “back catalogue” — that are available for distribution to consumers.

This standard also enables Release Creators to inform DSPs in a standardised way the terms and conditions under which such Releases can be made available.
